Bushu Nakajima Konya, which has been in business since 1837, has continued to preserve the traditional technique of "Bushu True Indigo Dyeing" since its founding.

[About indigo dyeing]
Indigo seeds are sown in the spring, harvested in the summer, and dried. Water is added and the indigo is left to ferment for about three months, and it takes about ten months for it to become a dye called "sukumo."

Nakajima Konya then carries out a process called "Jigoku Dashi."
As the name suggests, it is very difficult and takes a considerable amount of time as it encourages natural fermentation.

Since ancient times, the blue that can be extracted from nature has been limited, and among plant dyes, only indigo is capable of producing blue, so people have pursued trial and error in their quest to find the color of the sky or the sea. Furthermore, dyeing techniques that utilize the characteristics of indigo have been developed to suit the local conditions, and these techniques are still used today.
