[Mushu Nakajima Konya] Indigo-dyed organic cotton net eco bag

This is a net eco-bag dyed with natural indigo at Bushu Nakajima Konya in Hanyu City, Saitama Prefecture.
Bushu Nakajima Konya, which has been in business since 1837, has continued to preserve the traditional technique of "Bushu Shoai-zome" since its establishment.

The color is a dark, deep blue, called "hanada".
Indigo blue is also known as Japan Blue, a beautiful blue that has been loved in Japan since ancient times.

[About Indigo Dyeing]
Indigo seeds are sown in spring, harvested in summer, and dried. Water is then added, and it is left to ferment for about 3 months, taking about 10 months to become a dye called "sukumo".

Nakajima Konya then performs a process called "jigoku-dashi" (hell extraction).
As the name suggests, it is extremely difficult and takes a considerable amount of time as it promotes natural fermentation.

Since ancient times, the blue colors that could be extracted from nature were limited, and among plant dyes, only indigo could produce blue. People have tried various methods to achieve the color of the sky and sea. Furthermore, dyeing techniques utilizing the properties of indigo developed according to local characteristics, and these are still passed down today.
